St. Louis officers said Daniel Riley acted nonchalant after hitting Janae Edmondson
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - St. Louis police officers took the stand Wednesday in the trial against Daniel Riley.
Riley is accused of running a yield sign in downtown St. Louis in February 2023. His car pinned 17-year-old Janae Edmondson between his SUV and a parked car.
During testimony, officers described Riley’s demeanor after the crash as nonchalant and not remorseful.
Prosecutors showed the jury the blood test kit which they said found THC, codeine and fentanyl in Riley’s system.
In court, prosecutors showed black box data from the cars. They said the data showed that Riley accelerated from 5 mph to 45 mph in the seconds leading up to the crash. The data also showed that he did not attempt to brake.
The other car involved in the crash went from 29 mph to 27 mph, according to prosecutors.
The defense has been attempting to poke at the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s investigation. They claim Riley wasn’t at fault.
