DUPO, Ill. (First Alert 4) - The prom season is near and getting dolled up for the evening is a highlight for many high schoolers, but it’s an evening that can be hard on the wallet.

Moms on a Mission in Dupo, Illinois is making this prom season a little easier with a ‘Don’t Miss the Dance’ formal attire giveaway.

Dawn Putnam, the found and president of Moms on a Mission said this is a one stop shop for all your prom necessities.

Putnam said she understands how costly these dances can be.

“I can’t believe the price tags on some of these dresses. They are 400 dollars some of them,” she said.

She said she wants to help alleviate some of that pressure.

“We spend all year collecting formal wear for boys and girls so that we can give it away for free,” she said.

With the help of the community, they have a plethora of dresses and suits to give way.

“You know prom is a pretty big deal,” said Marie Long, donator.

Marie long has been helping Moms on a Mission for a few years by collecting formal wear.

“When I think of the amount of money that I can help save these families and you know they have to put food on the table and pay their house bill. Like nobody just has 700 dollars just laying around for a dress,” she said.

While some of the dresses are second hand, there are a handful that still have the price tags attached.

“We set up makeshift dressing rooms downstairs with mirrors and we do our best to make it seem boutique,” said Putnam.

The organization held its first ‘Don’t Miss the Dance’ on Sunday, but there will be another one in the near future.
