Charges filed after man hit his head on St. Louis pavement after being punched

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - St. Louis homicide detectives are investigating after a man who was found injured by first responders died.

On May 25, just after 6 p.m., EMS received a call for a “person down” in the Hyde Park neighborhood. The 41-year-old was taken to the hospital for treatment, where he died on May 31.

According to police, on June 3, hospital officials ed SLMPD’s Homicide Division and said the man had died from blunt force trauma to his head.

The man was identified as Joseph Brown, of St. Louis.

On Friday, Donald Cummings was charged with first-degree murder in Brown’s death.

Court documents state that Cummings punched Brown in the face, causing him to fall and hit his head on the pavement. The medical examiner determined Brown’s cause of death was blunt force trauma and ruled the death a homicide.
