Mom says she picked up her baby from child care with a black eye and scratches all over her face
TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG/Gray News) - An Ohio woman is seeking justice and answers after she says her infant’s face was covered in scratches and she had a black eye after returning from child care.
Kendra Small said she is not getting a clear answer as to why her child had the injuries to her face, but she is determined to hold someone able.
“It looked like she got jumped. She’s 10 months old. She didn’t deserve that,” Small said. “She can’t protect herself. I know that my baby was crying for me.”
According to Small, she wasn’t expecting to find her baby girl in that condition after picking her up from the child care provider last Friday.
“I saw up to at least 23 scratches, deep wounds. She was bleeding, she had oil already on her face, it was horrible,” Small said.
According to the Ohio Department of Children and Youth, Emma Anderson is the licensed child care provider for a child care program that is run out of a private home.
According to inspection reports, the care provider has a history of being partially compliant
Smalls said she was told the cuts happened because another little girl had clawed her. But she says it doesn’t add up.
“My baby looks like she got tic-tac-toe across her head,” Small said. “She has skin missing on her cheek, on her eye and her eye is black.
Small took her daughter to the hospital and filed a police report. She said she has also alerted children’s services.
The mom of two said she just wants answers to what happened to her baby.
“She was attacked,” Small said. “Whether it was from a kid, a 10-year-old, adult. I don’t know, but she was attacked and nobody called me; she wanted her mom.”
The child care provider has not immediately commented regarding the situation.
