ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The Missouri Court of Appeals has affirmed the conviction of Daniel Riley.

Riley was sentenced to nearly 19 years in prison after being found guilty of second-degree assault, armed criminal action, fourth-degree assault and operating a vehicle on a highway without a valid license.

Janae Edmondson was in downtown St. Louis for a volleyball tournament when she was hit by a car that Riley was driving in February 2023. Riley’s car pinned her between his SUV and a parked car.

In a filing with the Missouri Court of Appeals, Riley made three claims:

  1. The trial court erred in denying his motion for judgment of acquittal and in sentencing him on his armed criminal action conviction because the State did not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he acted with the requisite mental state for that crime
  2. The trial court abused its discretion in denying his continuance motion after the State, three days before trial, disclosed 52 pages from the toxicologist’s file
  3. The trial court erred in excluding evidence that post-accident the City changed the yield sign to a stop sign on westbound St. Charles Street at 11th Street.

The Missouri Court of Appeals did not find sufficient evidence regarding the three claims and ruled to affirm Riley’s convictions and sentences
