AYNOR, S.C. (WMBF/Gray News) - A high school teacher in South Carolina is facing charges after being accused of months of inappropriate with a student.

According to the Aynor Police Department, Matthew Boster, 31, is facing charges that include criminal solicitation of a minor and second-degree assault and battery.

Officials said Boster began working for Horry County Schools in August 2024 and served as a social studies teacher at Aynor High School.

During the school year, Boster “frequently” made physical with a female student at the school, touching her breasts with his body over clothing, according to arrest warrants.

The warrants also state that during the school year, Boster communicated with the victim with the intent of “persuading” her to engage in sexual activity.

Aynor police said records of electronic communication between Boste and the student back up these allegations.

Horry County Schools said that it learned of the allegations last week when the girl’s parent came forward.

School officials said they reported the allegations to the Aynor Police Department and placed Boster on istrative leave. But Boster had already told human resources on May 22 that he planned to resign on June 10.

“The district has high expectations for all faculty and staff, and we expect our employees to conduct themselves professionally and with integrity,” school district officials said.

Jail records show Boster was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center with a judge setting his bond at $10,000.
