Man driving tractor faces homicide charges after crash that killed 2, police say
CARROLL, Iowa (KTIV/Gray News) - A man in Iowa who was driving a tractor in a fatal rural crash is now facing homicide charges, according to officials.
The Iowa State Patrol said 51-year-old Troy Bluml has been charged with two counts of homicide by motor vehicle and one count of serious injury by motor vehicle.
The charges come after a crash on April 14 that resulted in two people’s deaths.
The state patrol said there was a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of 220th Street and Hawthorne Avenue around 10:40 p.m. The location is in a rural area southwest of Carroll.
In court documents, authorities said a tractor driven by Bluml was going east on 220th Street when it failed to stop at the intersection’s stop sign.
At the same time, a Hyundai Santa Fe was going northbound on Hawthorne Drive.
The tractor hit the driver’s side of the SUV, and the state patrol said the tractor left the scene after the collision.
The driver of the SUV, 17-year-old Elvin Murillo Castro, and 55-year-old enger Pedro Castro Murillo both died at the scene of the crash.
Another enger, 24-year-old Carlos Murillo Castro, was taken to a Des Moines area hospital with serious injuries.
Authorities said Blumi was found at his home the day after the crash and taken into custody. At the time, he was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal collision.
